Russian Old Believers

I found this excellent video on the Old Believers. It shows parts of the funerals for an Old Believer bishop, and the rich Russian tradition. I did not know how to put the video directly on the blog. For the ones that are interested to see this short video, here is the link:

Crazy ufo in Russia

What the ???????

Kalinka

I figured out the guitar chords for Kalinka and then found sheet music on line that already has them. If anyone can play piano or accordian we can play Kalinka together for the sing along at the Christmas party.

catchy VDV (paratroop) recruitment commercial

Vladimir Putin Action Comics

Some verbal NSFW/"adult" content. Unforgivably clumsy coding as of this writing (each strip gets its own frame?). Contrasts nicely with photographs of President Obama politely receiving counsel from Summers, Geithner and Bernanke.

"weekend at Lennys"

Those who are familiar with the movie Weekend at Bernie's know how great of a film it is with all its hilarious moments, For our class project i propose that we do a parody called "weekend at Lennys". The original movie start of with a rich guy dying and two of his friends cousins want to party at his house, but due to his death the will surely not happen, But the party must go on At last they in a series of drunk events carry Berrnies body around his house and ever one believes that he is alive, and carries on into the streets. So i've only thought of a couple steps more than this and i am open to input of any sorts, i am not married! Well what i imagine is that the people who were set to preserve Lenin's body decided it would be better to keep him alive for just awhile longer while the people didn't know, on a serious note i think we could work in a love affair between the corpse of Lenin and a figurative women, lets say a female character that encompasses Russia during the time of Lenin's mass appeal or after. Lets get Lenin laid one more time. Seriously im thinking of turning this into a real play, and am open for change, Now don't get to excited over this. But i think there should be a submarine and some going ons with the KGB and CIA maybe in a love triangle with Lenins body?

Узнаи президента

There's a new website set up by the presidential administration to help kids get familiar with Russia's president. I highly recommend checking it out. You can ask the president all sorts of questions, like his age and school grades, and then he'll tell you the answers. It's not all serious out there either, as you can assume an alternate personality of three kids (an 11-year-old stamp-collecting chess player, another 11-year-old skating fisherman or a 10-year-old cat lover) and pretend you're asking the president fun questions, like what are his favorite stamp collections or what's the biggest fish he's ever seen. I pretended to be the chubby fishing guy and even lowered my voice and acted out his questions but then my girlfriend walked in and things got pretty awkward. Anyway, I'm sure President Medvedev will be happy to show you around the Кремль so navigate here: http://www.uznai-prezidenta.ru/

Moscow Mayor Ousted

check out the BBC article about it

I'm surprised with how much our political system is different than those of other countries. It's shocking that a mayor can stay in power for that long! (that might just be in context of the history of mayors we've had in our own city, guess Detroit is more corrupt than Moscow!)

Аэлита

RosFilm is hosting an excellent movie by Protazanov called Аэлита.
The movie's about a young engineer, Los, flying a rocket and trying to overthrow a Martian government. The people's revolution is aided by his sidekick and a Red Army soldier, Gusev. The titular Aelita helps them as well after creepily spying on Los through a telescope (and falling in love with him (but he's got a wife (who symbolizes communism))).
